Student Book reviews Book Review - How to Sheet
splintered by A.J. Howard In the cleverly written book Splintered the protagonist, Alyssa Gardner, is struggling to accept that she is the great-great-great-granddaughter of Alice Liddell, the little girl who inspired Lewis Carroll’s book Alice Through the Looking Glass. Alyssa also has to come to terms with the fact that as Alice left Wonderland she had left it in shambles and Queen Red had cursed her family, but was her family really cursed? Alyssa travels to London (literally through a looking glass) to fix Alice’s mistakes and free her family from the curse, but before she steps through the looking glass she envisions her best friend, Jebediah Holt, with her on this crazy journey. When she is in Wonderland she meets her netherling playmate, Morphosis, who tells her that these tasks she has to complete are part of breaking her family's curse. Shocker, he lied. He was the one who was cursed and had to complete Queen Red’s deathspeak challenge. It actually turns out little Alice never returned to the real world Queen Red used her netherling magic to transform herself into Alice. “Alice” grew up and had a family passing her netherling genes to every living girl descendant. So, was Alyssa really cursed?
